Bruxism Grinding Appliances

What is Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)?

Bruxism is the involuntary grinding or clenching of teeth, usually during sleep. Over time, it can wear down tooth enamel, cause chronic headaches, jaw pain, and even disrupt your sleep. Bruxism appliances—also known as night guards—are custom-made mouthpieces that cushion your teeth, relax jaw muscles, and protect your smile from nighttime damage. In some cases, orthodontic treatment may be recommended to correct misaligned teeth or bite issues that contribute to bruxism, helping to reduce symptoms and prevent further complications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the signs I grind my teeth at night?

If you wake with jaw pain, headaches, sensitive teeth, or notice worn tooth edges, you may be grinding your teeth during sleep.

Is teeth grinding dangerous?

Yes. Chronic grinding can cause irreversible tooth damage, jaw disorders, sleep disruption, and expensive dental repairs.

How does a night guard help with bruxism?

A custom night guard prevents your upper and lower teeth from grinding together, protecting your enamel and reducing jaw tension.

Do I need a dentist for a night guard?

Yes. Store-bought guards are bulky and less effective. A dentist ensures the appliance fits your bite precisely for optimal comfort and protection.
